This is the fourth set of standards for Oncology Services, which builds on the success of the previous set for oncology services (2013). In addition to the review of current practice and guidance, the standards have been extended to include further relevant sections from CHKS’ wider library of standards for health and social care.
What's new?
In addition to feedback from clients and surveyors and updated professional guidance, we have extended the role of the multidisciplinary team, added standards for operating theatres and end of life care and some further clarity provided on the indicators.
Of particular note is that the standards now include the four general sections of the CHKS Standards relating to core functions:
1. Leadership and Management
2. Risk and Safety
3. Patient Centred Care
4. Facilities and Site Services
This ensures a consistent approach when applying CHKS standards to different types of organisations and that the attainment of CHKS accreditation is based on consistent standards, consistently applied across the spectrum of different health and care providers.
Key improvements include:
Agreed standards for Leadership and Management, Risk and Safety, Patient Centred Care and Facilities and Site Services
Additional standard for Operating Theatres
Additional standard for End of Life Care
Additional standard for Clinical Haematology
The standards are also ‘tagged’ to the CQC Key Lines of Enquiry requirement and the national regulator of Ireland, Health Information and Quality Authority, National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare.
The standards are also cross-referenced to the new requirements of ISO 9001 (2015)
Work carried out in relation to other regulatory requirements will therefore feed into the CHKS accreditation and assurance programmes. Likewise, working to implement these standards will help in the achievement of national requirements and regulations at an organisational level.
